Lyrics
The Ballad of Pip and Estella
From 'Still Traveling'
Pip he was an orphan boy, lonely as can be
Living with his sister, Miss Joe Gargery
Then come Uncle Pumblechook, an offer in his hand
Golden invitation to the house of Havisham
Made it to the mansion, but all he did was stare
When out come young Estella with ribbons in her hair
He looked into her eyes and he fell in love with ease
A wind was on the meadow as he whistled in the breeze
So then one day he asked her if she felt the same
But she preferred a gentleman of property and name
Born to be a blacksmith, common as a rogue
Not a guinea to his name his dream was yet untold
So off he went to London looking for a pot of gold
Bumped into pale Herbert Pocket, face from long ago
Seems they had a fight upon a summer day
But now they’re better friends there’s a fortune on the way
Then one night a knocking he heard upon the door
And standing there the convict from many years before
Trouble did arise and he soon began to see
That his great expectations were never meant to be
So later in the garden, many years from then
He bumped into Estella and said, “Remember when?”
She had learned a lesson of misery and pain
It was understood they’d never part again
It was understood they’d never part again
It was understood they’d never part again
